Congratulations! You've taken a step towards peaceful living. I believe that making the decision to seek therapy is one of the bravest steps you can take. I am honored to walk with you and your family on this part of your journey. I have extensive experience working with both adolescents and adults on a wide range of issues, and I welcome diversity in my clients.

I believe in providing a warm, supportive, judgement free environment for the therapy process, and I use a variety of therapeutic approaches based on your specific needs.

Through exploration and reflection, you can grow.I warmly welcome clients with a variety of needs.

I have significant specialized experience in treating folks who have survived traumatic events, including sexual assault and abuse, physical abuse, and domestic abuse. I consider trauma and PTSD related issues my specialty.

My style is warm and authentic. I believe in the power of a trusting therapeutic relationship as a significant agent of change. Therefore, during your first few sessions with me, building and nurturing that relationship will likely be a key focus.

You deserve to find peace and feel rejuvenated and whole.

About Me

I am Kimberly Thrasher (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia.  I earned my Bachelor's degree in 2006.  I went on to earn my Master’s degree in the advanced standing accelerated program through Indiana University in 2007.  I have had the pleasure of working in a variety of settings including an outpatient addiction recovery center, an adolescent  partial hospital program, residential programs, day treatment program, nursing homes, home based programs (Intensive outpatient and Skills Building), and therapeutic day treatment.   In early 2017, I decided it was time to return to private practice.

I use a strengths based, solution focused, client centered approach, and am skilled in many treatment modalities including:

Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychoanalytical.  My specialties include Trauma/PTSD, child and adolescent care, Transgender/ Gender Expansion issues, mood disorders, and anxiety disorder.

I also focus on helping folks transition through developmental stages.   I am currently completing training for certification as a Certified Family Trauma Professional.

I love helping people, taking  time in nature, exploring the East Coast, spending time with friends and family, reading, binge watching Netflix, and antiquing/interior design. I am laid back, easy to talk to, comfortable with all types of folks, embracing of diversity, and use my sense of humor to help clients explore their lives in a way that is non-threatening and natural.

I believe clients must feel safe, heard, and respected in order to make lasting changes in therapy and that the therapeutic relationship must be one of trust and openness.
